About Asist Courses

Asist is a two-day intensive, interactive and practice-dominated course designed to help attendees recognise risk and learn how to intervene to prevent the immediate risk of suicide. The emphasis of the workshop is on suicide first-aid, on helping a person at risk to stay safe and seek further help.
Asist is designed to help all attendees become more ready, willing and able to help persons at risk. Suicide can be prevented through the actions of prepared care givers. Just as 'CPR' skills make physical first aid possible, training in suicide intervention develops the skills used in suicide first aid. Attendance at the two full days is essential. It prepares care givers to:

Recognise the invitations for help Reach out and offer support
Review the risk of suicide Apply a suicide intervention model
Link people with community resources

Evaluations show that the workshops provide attendees with the confidence to respond to a person at risk of suicide and that the training helps them to save lives.
